Albany Tech opens
new Nursing Lab
Albany Technical
College cut the ribbon on a new nursing lab July 8, 2008 in the Nathaniel Cross
Building. The last renovations to the nursing lab occurred in 1994 when flood
waters heavily damaged the health technology building. The new lab simulates a
state-of-the-art hospital setting, complete with private rooms, a nursing
station, patient care rooms, a waiting room, a nursery for infant care, and
up-to-date health care equipment.
“Our nursing students will learn in a similar clinical environment in which they
will work,” said Dean of Academic Affairs, Dorothy Garner. “Therefore, they will
receive the best training possible and will be better prepared to go straight to
work once they graduate. Better educated nursing students mean better health
care services for everyone in our community.”
The nursing lab renovation cost $350,000 and was paid for with state funds and
tuition and fees. Students will begin using the lab July 8th, the start of
Summer Quarter.
