Albany
Tech students win top honors at national Phi
Beta Lambda competition
Two Albany Technical
College students placed in the Top Ten at the
2008 Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership
Conference held in Atlanta from June 21-24th.
Michael Keith, a Computer Information Systems
student from Albany, placed seventh in the
Website Development category. Travis Ellis, a
Computer Information Systems student from Lee
County, placed eighth in Website Development.
Keith, Ellis, and another
ATC student, Wendell Covin, also operate a
website design business called
Albany Web Wizards.
The trio met through the Computer Information
Systems program. They quickly realized the
skills they were learning at ATC, combined with
their specific design talents, could help them
establish a profitable business. Now, they’ve
created websites for several southwest Georgia
businesses and hope to continue growing their
venture.
Phi Beta Lambda, the post-secondary division of
Future Business Leaders of America, is an
educational association made up of 250,000
students nationwide. The organization prepares
students for careers in business and
business-related fields. More than 1,500
students competed in the national competition,
including five from Albany Technical College.
Albany
Technical College also received awards for the
Largest Increase in Local Chapter Membership and
Largest Percentage of Increase in Local Chapter
Membership.
