Dougherty County Commission

The Dougherty County Commission met in work session on Monday, February 25, 2008. The following items were discussed:

  • Lisa Riddle of the Convention and Visitors gave an update on the upcoming Snicker Marathon Energy Bar Marathon. She reported that over 800 runners have registered for the race from forty states across the country. There will also be runners from Canada. She expects over 1000 runners to be in the race before the event officially kicks off on Saturday.
  • Commission discussed a request to rezone 14.002 acres at the northwest corner of Old Pretoria Road and Camden Lane. Several residents were present to show their opposition to this request, stating that the rezoning would have a negative impact on their quality of life in that area.
  • Don Buie was recommended for appointment to the Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful Board to fill an unexpired term ending December 31, 2008.
  • Commission held discussion on whether they should write a letter to members of the local General Assembly delegation in opposition to the tax reform proposal being sponsored by Speaker Glen Richardson. The commission stopped short of voting to send the letter at this time.
